Traffic flow changes coming to Pinehurst Road as Contra Costa County Public Works Department responds to erosion
Canyon, California – The Contra Costa County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) has announced plans to install one-way traffic controls on Pinehurst Road, about half a mile northwest of Canyon Road, starting Thursday, March 27, 2025, weather permitting. This traffic adjustment is necessary due to road embankment erosion, which has created a safety concern for drivers using the roadway.
The temporary traffic control will use clear signage and markings to guide vehicles through the affected area. A stop-controlled, one-way system will ensure that traffic can still flow while keeping drivers safe. The setup will remain in place until a permanent repair is completed. The repair design is already underway, and officials are working to finalize plans for long-term stabilization of the embankment.
Road Maintenance and Public Service Commitment
This project reflects CCCPWD’s ongoing effort to maintain over 650 miles of roads and 79 miles of streams and drainage channels across Contra Costa County. The department also manages over 150 county buildings, provides services such as flood control and parks and recreation, and operates Buchanan Field Airport in Concord and Byron Airport in Byron.
