Concord opens candidate nomination period for City Council and City Treasurer seats ahead of the November election

Concord, California – Residents interested in serving their community through local government now have an opportunity to seek elected office as the City of Concord has officially opened the candidate nomination period for the upcoming municipal election.

The filing period is now underway and will remain open until Friday, Aug. 7, 2026. Officials are encouraging anyone considering a run for office to complete the application process before the deadline.

This year’s municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, and voters will choose representatives for City Council Districts 1, 3, and 5, along with the city’s Treasurer.

Candidates must complete filing requirements by Aug. 7

According to the city, members of the City Council are elected to four-year terms and are responsible for establishing city policies, setting priorities, and approving staffing and budget decisions that affect Concord residents.

The City Treasurer also serves a four-year term, but unlike councilmembers, the position is elected at-large, representing the entire city rather than a single district. The Treasurer’s responsibilities are primarily advisory and include overseeing the city’s investment portfolio while providing quarterly investment reports to the City Council.

Residents interested in running for a City Council seat must live in Concord and be a registered voter within the district they wish to represent. Those seeking the office of City Treasurer must also be Concord residents and registered voters.

To officially enter the race, prospective candidates are required to obtain a nomination packet from the City Clerk’s Office. This requires scheduling an appointment by calling (925) 671-3390 or by emailing [email protected].

City officials emphasized that all completed nomination paperwork must be submitted by Aug. 7, 2026, for candidates to qualify for placement on the November ballot.
