Suspensions of jury trials in Contra Costa County extended for one more week

Contra Costa County, California – The Superior Court extended the suspension of new jury trials which was supposed to end today through February 4, 2022, due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Contra Costa County and throughout the state, as well as the continued increase in COVID-19 infections among attorneys, court personnel, litigants, and other court users.

Due to the recent COVID-19 situation, the Superior Court decided to continue the suspension of new jury trials for one more week.

Despite the court’s desire to reopen on February 7, 2022, the present danger of continuous exposure and transmission of the new COVID-19 variant remains too high for anyone who works for or at the court, visits court facilities, or appears in courtrooms (including those who are detained in county jails or live in congregant care facilities).

All other court functions, including access to the court clerk’s offices, will continue to operate as usual.

The Supreme Court initially suspended new jury trials starting December 27,2021.
