One man dead, one seriously injured in a Novato house fire

Novato, California – Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his late thirties who was found unresponsive inside a burning house in Novato a week ago.

John Matthew Turley, 39, was found by firefighters on the second floor of a second structure behind a home in the 1900 block of Center Road, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

The report of the fire came in around 9:09 a.m. When firefighters got to the scene, they were informed that two people were inside the burning structure.

One of the people that were reportedly trapped inside the building managed to leave the burning structure on his own. According to the latest known information, the person sustained serious injuries.

Turley was found unresponsive by firefighters and was shortly pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway, and an autopsy, along with toxicological tests, is also being performed.
