Two people managed to get away with minor injuries in a fiery collision that claimed the life of one person
Antioch, California – A major collision that took place on Thursday morning in Antioch resulted in the death of one individual and the injuries of two others.
Authorities said the fiery accident occurred on James Donlon Boulevard between Contra Loma Boulevard and Rio Grande Drive around 10:30 a.m.
According to authorities, there were two vehicles involved in the collision, and one of the vehicles caught fire after crashing into a tree. When responding crews arrived, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames with the driver trapped inside. Crews extricated the driver from the burning vehicle, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two people in the second vehicle, the driver and a passenger, sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Because of the accident, James Donlon Boulevard was closed for several hours in both directions between Contra Loma Boulevard and Rio Grande Drive.
The police said that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the collision.
