Richmond man arrested after killing a pedestrian in hit-and-run crash

San Pablo, California – San Pablo police said a motorist struck and killed a 21-year-old man between Giant Road and John Avenue on Friday night and then left the scene.

According to a press statement from the San Pablo Police Department, officers discovered the young pedestrian on the street around 10:12 p.m. Friday, suffering from “serious” injuries. As of Saturday evening, police had not released his identity or given any other information about him.

According to authorities, the individual died as a result of his injuries while emergency medical workers were on the scene.

Authorities detained a Richmond man, Duglus Rodas-Reyes, 30, on Saturday morning after receiving assistance from the Richmond Police Department. According to officers, Rodas-Reyes is suspected of being the individual who struck the victim.

Witnesses and security cameras convinced police that a 2005 Dodge Magnum vehicle was involved in the incident. They tracked down the vehicle on Enterprise Avenue in Richmond, where they also recognized and apprehended Rodas-Reyes as he attempted to flee in the vehicle.

According to police, Rodas-Reyes confessed to being the motorist that struck the man and fled the scene of the accident. He was arrested and placed in the Contra Costa County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. The District Attorney’s Office will evaluate the case next week to decide whether or not to press formal charges against him.
