80-year-old pedestrian fatally struck in the Bayview District
San Francisco, California – A car struck and killed an 80-year-old man in the Bayview District on Monday morning, making him the city’s thirteenth pedestrian killed in a traffic accident this year.
Officers were dispatched in the area of Phelps Street and Fairfax Avenue for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying on the road. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Authorities said the vehicle’s driver, a 24-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but DUI is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The 80-year-old pedestrian is the sixth elderly person killed in a road accident this year. In 2021, 26 people died in road accidents in San Francisco.
