78-year-old Oakland woman was scammed and robbed last week. Police now arrested one of the suspects.
Oakland, Calif. – In an appalling incident that took place last week, a 78-year-old woman in Oakland was victimized by a pair of robbers who scammed her by posing as charity workers.
The victim was approached by two people, who claimed to be collecting donations for a charitable cause. However, instead of carrying out the noble task, they duped the elderly lady into withdrawing a hefty sum of money from her bank account.
As per the police, the woman withdrew thousands of dollars, which the robbers quickly snatched and fled away. The robbers swiftly escaped the scene by getting into a waiting vehicle driven by a third person. The Oakland police now confirmed that they have some good news about this incident, as they announced that they have taken into custody a suspect in connection with this vile robbery.
In a desperate attempt to retrieve her hard-earned money, the victim of the scam followed the swindlers into their getaway vehicle. The perpetrators, however, showed no mercy and began driving away while the woman was still clinging on.
The victim was dragged along for a few moments before falling onto the pavement. Fortunately, she escaped with no physical injuries, but the emotional trauma of being conned was undeniable.
The Oakland Police Department has tracked down the suspects’ vehicle to the 5100 block of East 12th Street. One person has been arrested and is believed to be linked to the heinous robbery.
The police department’s quick action and unwavering commitment to keeping the community safe are commendable.
