Richmond police investigating vandalism at elementary schools over the weekend
Richmond, California – Many schools in Contra Costa have been damaged recently, and the local police are working to determine who is responsible for the crime.
Damage was done to public elementary schools in Richmond over the weekend, and the evidence left behind has given police a few leads about who might have done it.
Richmond police first received a report regarding a shattered window at Lincoln Elementary School.
Officers went to investigate, and once they got inside the school, they found that the damage was even worse.
According to authorities, shattered glass can be seen from practically every angle at the site. The staff room was a mess, and a lot of school supplies were thrown all over the floor.
According to Ryan Philips, a representative for the West Contra Costa Unified School District, “Parents and families are concerned, as they should be. Schools are safe havens and we are doing everything in our power to make sure they are safe places for students to learn.”
Authorities said two more schools located in Richmond’s iron triangle and a local charter school near the Richmond Marina were vandalized over the weekend.
The investigation is ongoing and the police believe the incidents are linked to a certain group of juveniles.
